Intro post
Nov. 27th, 2022 07:36 pmHail and well met. I've been thinking about making a dreamwidth and this seemed like a good time for it. I'm trying to write and publish novellas for the first time - I'm not ready to build and maintain a professional writing website but wanted a home base for it. Also here for music, books, and Yuletide. My real life circumstances are bad right now, so I'm trying to carve out places that aren't.
The novellas are episodic Odyssey retellings in the near-future solar system (think between The Martian and The Expanse). I've been immersing myself in Homer-related stuff, so that will probably feature here (I'm not at all a classicist, but I'm lucky enough to have an amazing classicist friend I can bug with questions!) Since there are a subset of people into classics for, uh, Not Great reasons, I'll take this opportunity to note that this blog is firmly committed to antiracism.
Other potential topics...I've followed, in the lurking sense, several people on dreamwidth who do those periodic books posts, and I'm thinking about doing that but for music?
I listen to a lot of indie audio drama (hey audio drama friends from Tumblr!) so I'll probably have audio drama shenanigans here too someday. (There is a lot of really difficult shit going on in that community, so it's not something I can engage with lightheartedly right now, but it's an art form I love and am moving toward working in, so future blogging topic ahoy).
Re: Yuletide - I didn't sign up this year, but I'm hanging out to write treats and read (AO3 ghostsquidswrites).
Re: My real life circumstances are really bad right now, I don't foresee using this blog for venting about real life, but be aware it might come up.
Re: tone: I lean on the cynical side and don't necessarily avoid expressing negative thoughts, but I have very low tolerance for the internet hobby that is "be snarky (often with the currently-popular flavor of bigotry as garnish) about people and art, with inflicting distress as tolerated bug or feature." If you're into whatever the internet's subtle bigotry de jour is or find yourself saying "they might cancel me for this but..." a lot, take it elsewhere.
I don't yet have a great grasp of when it's okay to subscribe to someone's journal if they don't indicate one way or the other, so I'll take care but I apologize if I screw this up. Please feel free to subscribe here, no need to let me know.
